A cute follow-up to The Unhoneymooners, that takes place in Hawaii.  This novella/short story is one I would have preferred to read vs listen to.  It was different from any audiobook I've listened to before, with sound effects and more dramatization.

The story itself was fun, predictable and a nice addition to its predecessor. Though it would have been nice to have been a little longer, maybe see more of Ami's life after her divorce, amongst other things (possible spoiler).

The Improbable Meet-Cute Series

Short stories are a recent like for me.  The past 2 months I have read this series which includes works by some of my favorite authors and some new-to-me ones.

This was an impulse audio read.  I can't really say that the writing duo named Christina Lauren is a new to me author.  I've read a couple books last year that I loved.  So for 2023 my goal is to read her backlist.

Josh and Haley is the story of reunited friends (with a past from high school days).After Josh's breakup this pair sets out to create blind dates for each other, but these blind dates are also double dates.  What follows was a laugh out loud read - yes I did almost spit wine on my puzzle a couple times.

Would I have enjoyed it as much if I had read the book?  I can't really say. Nevertheless the plot was fun, the characters well developed, personalities authentic making an entertaining story.

That being said there were a few things that niggled at me.  Josh & Hazel haven't seen each other in over a decade and within moments are the best of friends -bester than their teen years. Plus the epilogue felt a bit over the top IMHO.

But other than that this was an entertaining audio read where I followed along with my print copy.

Audiobook was obtained through CloudLibrary with the print copy being a recent thrift shop rescue.

I am definitely a mood reader, and when I tried this book a couple of years ago, it was a DNF within the first 10%. However, this time I finished it in a day and a half, which was made easier by being on holidays.

Told from the point of view of someone who considers themselves to be unlucky in most aspects of life, the story follows Olive when her twin sister is unable to take her honeymoon and she goes in her place, accompanied by the groom's brother - her arch enemy. What follows is a zany story that had me laughing out loud and unable to put the book down.

The Unhoneymooners is a story of love, family, and self-discovery. It had all the elements of a great rom/com - the romance, the funny moments, the banter and the charm that I love in a good rom/com.

I am so glad that I gave this book a second chance, I needed to since Christina Lauren has become an auto-read author and have been slowly making my way through her back list.

I am relatively new to the writing duo that makes up Christina Lauren. They had me at Love & Other Words and every book since. Going in blind I discovered Something Wilder is somewhat different from those I’ve read, this is their pandemic and with reviews all over the page I proceeded with caution.

Lily lost the love of her life 10 years ago and she doesn’t really know why. What follows is a chance encounter, but can that mend the hurts that both sides feel? Lily was the last person Leo expected see while away on a guys week long treasure hunt. What follows is a somewhat less witty story filled with mystery, deceit and nature.

I enjoyed this book, though it lacked the wit usually associated with a Christina Lauren book it was adventurous with life and death situations, friendships and reconciliation. It was well written with twists and turns both predictable and those not so much. A fun read that highlights the unforgiveness of nature.

This book released many months ago, I feel I’m one of the last to finally read Something Wilder, if you haven’t read this yet don’t let the mixed reviews sway you.

Christina Lauren is an author(s) I am slowing making my way through their back-list since reading Love and Other Words. It was an awesome read, you should read if you haven’t already.

One would think after I loved their previous book I’d jump at the next, right? It’s been patiently sitting on my shelf since it’s release last May. Though I am kicking myself for waiting so long, it was the book to get me out of a reading slump.

This was such a fun (and hot at times) read. One can’t help love Jess, single mom to Juno. Juno is an awesome 6 year old, it was a pleasure to read about a non-whiny annoying child for a change. Best friend Fizzy is a hoot and totally made this book.

This book was a pleasure to read, it had great character development, there was depth, I really got to know them and could feel the vibes they emitted. The plot was unique and totally worked.

The Soulmate Equation is a book about relationships, integrity and choices that something are beyond our control. Oh you noticed that I haven’t mentioned Dr. River Peña, that snobby, stuck-up guy known as Americano, well you can guess how that turns out, right?

Relatively new to the writing duo Christina Lauren, it was In a Holidaze that has me going through their back list.  Love & Other Words was the one recommended by my friends on IG.

I was drawn into this book immediately.  Told from present day Macy and then as 13 year old Macy - this story progresses as the friendship between her and Elliot develops.

Would I call this 'chick lit'?  I suppose so or maybe women's fiction but either way I enjoyed reading this book, from the writing that kept me immersed to a connection with a 13 yo, who lost so much at such a young age, to watching her grow into a young woman and what happened when everything changed - yea I didn't see that one coming. Coming in over 400 pages, some parts in the middle might have dragged on a little but I was too invested to let it bother me.

Love & Other Words is a coming of age story with its bookish charms - what's your favourite word? what are you reading and a cozy 'closet' that any bookworm would love regardless of age.  It was a pleasure to read and will be one to recommend. There is some mature content but nothing to take away from the story.

2020 has been a year and a half, to put it mildly.  I've found my reading habits have changed somewhat.  Where I was strictly historical fiction I am turning to suspense thrillers and recently rom/com, with this holiday season trying my hand at Christmas stories.  While I'm slowly getting back to HF I hope to continue the rom/coms and so far I've loved those read this year.

In a Holidaze has been making the rounds over social media and finally the day before Christmas I made an impulse purchase - Merry Christmas to me.

I was grabbed right away with this story.  What's not to love about a group of friends who get together to celebrate not just the holidays but their friendship as well.  Told from Mae's pov as she goes through some weird time loop thing, it's Christmastime where magic is in the air.

When I say magic I don't wan to imply that's the total make up of this book.  Yea there is a touch but this book offers much more.  It's a cry for help from Mae as she sets out to discover what her life is really about and what she wants.  It's funny, full of yuletide cheer and the realisation that your family doesn't necessarily mean connected by blood. 

Steeped in tradition In a Holidaze was a fun, feel good read that was perfect for the season.
